How do I push back the pistons to fit new pads?
Can't seem to get 'em to move back at all.
I understand there is a VX special tool but I've also been told to use a G
    clamp.
There are cutouts in the edge of the piston - do these have to be aligned in
    a special direction?

    cheers,

If you use a g clamp the caliper will be scrap. The piston must be screwed
in and pushed at the same time - that is what the tool is for. The inner pad
has lumps on them at the top and these fit into the groove on the piston.

Halfords do a rear brake caliper screwer in'er-bout 20 quid..not great fit
but with a bit of effort it can and does work

Thanks for the reply, I managed to borrow the proper tool and they went back
ok. Took quite a bit of effort to move them at first. I released the bleed
    nipple to lower the pressure.
The pads were down to about 3mm each. Does that make pushing the pistons
back harder as they are out further? Almost like they were caught up on
something inside. There was no way I could have done it without the tool.
Tried with long nose pliers pushing and turning but no movement.
I'd like to see a cross section through the caliper to see what the
    mechanism is.
I assume they will self adjust now?

No lumps on the rear of pads (old or new) - so nothing to locate into the
    grooves in the piston?

    Cheers, Mike
