In the centre console is provision for fitting a cig lighter for the
rear seat passengers. Ideal for Game boys and thus quiet Grandkids!!

However pulling the plastic plate off shows that there is no wiring
    behind.

Is there any connection for this on the loom and where is it???

    TIA

What model do you have? I have a 1.6 Life it has 3 cig lighter outputs, one
uder the handbrake (or plane throttle as my lad calls it), one at the back
of the centre console (for 2nd row passengers) and one on the right hand
side of the boot (looking in). All 3 work.

I have a new (2 weeks old) 1.8 CDTI Energy.

It has the front socket, like you say under the (plane throttle - as
Vauxhall actually call it!!) hand brake, the one in the boot to drive
the tyre inflator (and rear seat game boys) - too many grand kids!!

In the middle there is just a plugged hole for one.. ho hum.

Are you sure it is a 1.8 as the Vauxhall brochure and website say 1.9. In
either case the Energy model is a 'special' so may not include a 'working'
    central cig lighter.

Agree with the other post - even the Life trim has three working
sockets so unless you have an Expression (which may have some removed)
    they should all work.

My mistake - 1.9, It does not have a working one. That's what prompted
the q. Presumably it will have a standard loom, which would then have
    a connection, just not used.

I have an old style 1.6 Zafi Club. There is a blanking plug for a cigar
lighter socket inside the rear compartment marked First Aid. Just behind
the trim there's a pair of wires terminating in a 2 pole socket.

There is however no juice at this connector with the key in any position
    - there are a lot of vacant fuse slots in the panel, maybe someone with
a wiring diagram could kindly trace it back to the fuse panel.

I've had a look through the noddy wiring diagrams in Haynes, there's
only one fag lighter I can find (no indication as to physical
location), but it is connected via fuse 36 (20A). There is also a
connection via the multi timer, but I think this is just for bulb
illumination...........which in turn leads me to suspect that this
in't the rear comaprtment one. Oh well I've typed this now, so I'll
    press send anyway :-/

Thanks for that, It might be called something else, like accessory
socket perhaps. The handbook mentions fuse 36 as heated seats/cigarete
lighter - there is a good fuse in position 36.

In the handbook, fuse position 30 is marked 'constant current for
caravan/trailer' and there is no fuse in that position, so I bet that`s
the feed to the rear socket. I,ll try a fuse in there tomorrow and
report back. I was thinking about putting one of those little 240 volt
    inverters in there.

Sorry about that, it looks like Haynes is wrong about fuse numbering
then, or it changed between model years :-/

No it was I who was wrong, the handbook shows fuse 36 as heated
seat/cigarette lighter. It also shows fuse 33 (terminal 30) as 'constant
current for caravan/trailer, I have no idea what terminal 30 means. fuse
position 30 is for the sunroof and has no fuse installed. There`s no
mention of 'rear accessory socket' in the fuse board description.

There`s a lot of empty sockets in the fuse board, when I have more time,
I might investigate further, anyway for the O/P, the wiring to the extra
socket is in place in my vehicle so I would presume it`s a standard
wiring loom and the same will apply to his new version.

Thanks for all the help folks. I have had the panel off and the only
wire there is the hand brake sensor, so maybe I'll have to try and
squeeze my, not inconsiderable, bulk under the damn thing.

The wires on mine to the rear accessory socket were tucked away from the
rest, it took me a while to locate them.
I asked a motor mechanic friend the other day, and he reckoned that
there should be a position for an extra relay somewhere near the fuse
board, which needs to be in place before you get juice to the extra
socket wiring, that`s all he could tell me.
