I have just changed the oil and it came out of the sump with the
consistancy of water. I have been told it could be a petrol pump
problem and that petrol is mixing with the oil, although I could not
smell any. Any other thoughts please.

    Thanks

I have just changed the oil and it came out of the sump with the
    Head gasket more likely...
I presume you've checked for gunk in the cooling system expansion tank ?

Thanks for the response. No gunk in expansion tank, normal water/anti
freeze colour but as you mentioned it I do seem to be topping it up a
bit, half a header tank full a week..........no water leaks from
anywhere else nor is oil a milky colour, normal colour but flows and
    drips very easily.

  4. When you say 'Consistency of water' do you mean there's actually water in it
or just that it LOOKED like (dirty) water?

Thinner oils (such as Mobil 1 0w40) can look LIKE water when changed as they
are very viscous when cold and as such appear 'thin' or 'watery'.

Also, if any kind of engine flush or oil additive has been used this could
    also explain it...

If the car isn't using much coolant and there's no sign of mayo/dairylea in
the oil filler cap or coolant header tank then I wouldn't be too
    concerned...

Just drive carefully and watch for power decreases and temp increases - the
minute either of those happen it's time for the car to see a doctor ;-)

    Cheers,
