Just been quoted £170 to change a water pump on my 2.0 Vectra, or £200 to do the timing belt as well. Does this sound right? I thought it would be cheaper than that. Bob
Shop around. If you are being charged an extra £30 for the belt, they won't be changing the rollers and tensioner. £170 would be about right for a water pump and full timing belt kit, at least, that is what my company would charge, and we are not the cheapest (just the best).
I had a look for the pump, and it is only £25 from autovaux, and the garage said they would be paying £35 (do Autovaux sell vauxhall parts?). They say it is a long job because it has air conditioning etc. I did a bit of shopping around, and am taking it somewhere else for £200, but he will be fitting a timing belt kit as well (allegedly). The garage it was at refused to match him on that. They were OK though, cos I was expecting them to charge me for diagnosis. Bob
I'm glad you are sorted. Air con doesn't enter the equation...the Water pump is at the back of the engine, and doesn't impede timing belt fitment.
I think I will get the new garage to verify it is a water pump problem. Don't want to be paying £200 for a bust hose. Bob
I would insist on a genuine Vauxhall cambelt kit. They are very reasonably priced now. I also feel sorry for the original dealer who did the diagnosis for free and gave you advice only to lose the repair for a few pounds. bear in mind they are unlikely to help you again! Secondly, getting one person to diagnose and another to repair is always dodgy. If the diagnosis was duff, you will have no comeback from the repairer. Alan
