    Hi,

I've just bought a Vectra SRI 16v and I was wondering how you can tell
the difference between a standard SRI and the SRI140. I know the log book
would show, but that's been sent away. Mine's a 'R' plate on a January
    1998.

    Thanks

you could try doing an online insurance quote----your reg usually shows up
exactly what model/engine size on uk database used by insurance companies

I think 140's only came out with face lift models. Early ones are 136bhp.

The 140 is 136bhp.... it just sounds better than sri136..

I had a 140 on a V plate.. not sure if they did one on your reg.

Dont actually think you can tell just by looking.

Try the online insurance quote...sound like a good idea...although
last one i did stated my Astra 1.8 SRI 5dr was a 3dr dual fuel
    model..!!!!!

The 140 is also a nippy motor for its size..... have fun.

I've noticed a few differences internally between my SRI and the SRI140,
however engine wise they are the same, mine was an ex police car with a few
engine mods left on and then the previous owner bolted even more on, so now
it's well past the 136bhp mark. But I would like the extras internally.

    But thanks everybody who replied

    regards

Police spec cars are normally very different. Lower internal spec but
    uprated engine/brakes/suspension.

They have also been driven very hard but also had lots of servicing and good
    standard of maintenance.

Police Forces buy powerful cars, they don't usually uprate the performance
at all. They stiffen the suspension mainly to cope with the significant
    extra weight they carry.

They do a lot of miles in a short time. They are rarely driven particularly
hard, and the are well serviced, but can get quite tatty in service life.
