My brothers battery went flat on his cav, so he got somebody to jump him
off, strangely he said when the jump leads were attached the ignition
'lights came on - without the switch being turned, I've never heard of this
before in my life-time how can this happen?

Are you saying a starter solenoid stuck on, can cause the ignition lights to
come on even though the key isn't in the ignition. Please explain how this
    can happen?
    never in a million years

well i've seen it before, not on a cav though.

may well be a relay/something didn't engage/disengage properly when it went
    flat.

or maybe the ignition barrel contacts didn't turn off properly.

i've even know cars starters motors to go when a car is jumped with no keys
    whatsoever.

without studying the wiring loom diagram i would not like to speculate.

That's given me food for thought, I'll have my brother check for a broken
earth strap - I have to admit I was stumped when my brother asked me this
    question.

  7. I once had a customer who had a metro who's ignition lights came on when he
    opened
    the drivers door.
We narrowed it down to him not having tightened the Battery earth lead !

    Funny that...
I have a 16v Calibra (see complaint below by the magnum) and it keeps dying
on me. I noticed if i put the indicator light on without the keys in the
ignition my ignition lights came on too........... havnt checked if it does
it when its working normally but when it dies that fault is there... im
    going to check right now..

    Cheers,
    Graham
