smoother power, bhp, effeciency etc - what is the difference in reality
    please?

Reality : slightly extra induction noise.
Reality : slightly extra induction noise.
Reality : unless done correctly with a good cold air feed you will
    probably see *less* power.

Oh, and slightly extra induction noise.
Somewhere in the area of bugger all, unless you happen to read Max Power
    - in which case it will give 'kitted up' Novas an extra 20bhp.
Performance air filters are a basic engine tuning stepping stone which
can pave the way fowards for real tuning. On their own, it's just a bit
of extra induction noise. Even if you do it properly and manage to
liberate an extra two or three BHP, do you think that's really going to
    be noticeable on a 170bhp car ?

Don't let that put you off buying one, but just don't expect it to
actually do anything performance wise. The only substantial difference
you're likely to notice is an increase in fuel consumption (due to
liking the induction roar and constantly putting your foot down to hear
    it... :)

I agree with Lordy on this. The only effect will be more induction noise.
