Thanks to all who have helped in the past but.....
I've got rid of the Corsa 1.7TDi and bought a new Skoda "Fabia" 1.9 vRS.....
The insurance is almost £100 higher but it's worth it....
It's used as a driving school car and the pupils are delighted and, in all
honesty, they find it much easier to drive....which it is.
The replacement Corsa was almost £1,000 more than the cost of the Fabia and
that was also without the similar-type body-kit for the Corsa which is
    standard on the vRS...!!
The Fabia is more solid, more frugal with the diesel, more powerful as in
torque and fast acceleration....it's also much quieter at all speeds....a
    much better car by far.

mmm, it has to be said that Volkswagen groups diesels are very nice, I've
been driving a 150bhp TDi Golf recently, it was very very quick whilst still
    being good on the juice.

I was told today that the car (Fabia vRS) will be *tight* for about the
first 2k - 3k miles, after which the mpg should get much better.... only 400
miles and 42mpg which still isn't too bad for a driving school car...should
eventually get 50 - 56mpg though. The Corsa only ever returned about
48mpg throughout its 33k miles from new with 13.6 miles on the clock.
