hey guys long time lurker first time poster,

got a 2l 16v ecotec cavalier with a good number of miles on her (120k)

problem is that she has one clicking tappet anyone tell me whats involved in
removing tappets? and if a good clean and soak in petrol would hopefully
    clear this

anyone know the cost for a set of new tappets roughly?

    cheers

    AFAIK they are auto adjusting.
might be clagging up, but might be more serious
if you are not feeling that brave to take a look....not as simple as you
    think BTW.
a good dose of engine oil cleaner or alike might do the trick.

check the up breather pipe and the pipe to the ICV (& the ICV itself) that
will give a good clue as to the state of the insides

As already said, the tappets are self adjusting. I had (what was thought
to be) a similar problem on my Omega and the first attempt at a remedy
was a really good service. Drain the old oil - use a quality engine
flush - refill with new good quality oil - new OE filter - cross fingers.

This didn't help on my engine, so we set about changing the tappets.
Flippin' expensive as you have to buy a complete set. The complete set
of tappets for mine (may be the same for you?) was something like £350!
Trying to decide which one is making the noise is also a bit
    problematical too, BTW.

None of this worked on my engine (about the same mileage as yours) and
the noise was finally traced to a broken valve guide. The bottom had
dropped off and was bouncing up and down in the inlet manifold.

    Regards
