    I've just bought a Mk4 Astra (2002), w/ 68,000 miles.

At low speeds (<25mph) with little throttle it bounces around. At
higher speeds and under acceleration it's fine. The front rebounds to
above its original position when I push down. The drive also feels a
bit soft, but I'm used to newer cars with 'sports' suspension, so it
may just be my perception. Is it likely to be shock absorbers?

yes if they have never been changed
the struts will have gone soft.
