Hi i have a noise on My 2001 Zafira and wondered if anyone could help.
It has been to the garage this week and the mechanic changed the brake
pads at the front and the fuel filter , he drove the car before i
picked it up but didnt make the noise for him. It is a grating noise
that winds down to a low noise that sounds like a distant car horn. It
only started a few weeks ago and was intermittent and now seems to
slowly be getting worse. It seems to be more apparent when braking
with the wheels slighty turned but not all the time.

If anyone has any ideas/help would be great as i am due to do a long
motorway drive soon and i am really concerend that it may affect the
cars performance and cause an accident or some such.

    Thanks

    Jenny

Reason I ask is (and I really dont want to worry you, but..) the belt on our
zaf made this sort of noise just before it went. I had to undergo open
    wallet surgery to fix it.

Is it the rear disc calipers ?
there were plenty of discussions about this problem, as a quick look at
    google will show:
    e.g
    http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=7535

Zafiras VIN range WOLOTGF7522199742 to WOLTGF7522229096 recalled because
batch of brake caliper pistons may release hydrogen gas into brake fluid. If
found to be from faulty batch they are to be replaced.

We had a '52 reg 1.8 Elegance, and VX replaced the rear calipers while under
warranty, but I guess if yours is from faulty batch - check your VIN , they
will replace it whether under warranty or not ?

    good luck,
    Sam
