Further to my previous post "'99T Vectra Di rear fog lamps draining
battery", after the battery was recharged, the standard (Philips Car 400)
stereo won't work. I cant tell if it's even switched on. Press the on/off
button and the display shows 00.00 top left (time?) then the temperature
(which works) and below this "SAFE". Press on/off again and SAFE is replaced
    by 01.01.1997.

I'd appreciate some help with this please

Turn it on whilst pressing AS (I think), then you'll be able to enter your
code (followed by a long AS).

Thanks for the speedy reply I'll give it a try when wife returns. Trouble is
that this is our first Vauxhall and I never had a handbook of any kind for
this car. Is this the standard way to enter the code?

    Yes (if you know it!)

When the set is ready (I think ON+AS) the 'safe' will turn to '10' (your
    first of ten goes ever).
Press the 1 button until it matches the first digit of your code, then move
    on to 2 then 3 and 4.
When you're happy that's right hold AS (I think), great long beep and your
    all done.

If your code is wrong, leave the set on until the next go. There's a timer
that stops you trying ten time too quickly (because then you are really up
the creek) and it must be left on for the timer to run.

Gee, I've never been so helpful!

Good feeling isn't it ;-) I've always tried to help in some way whatever N/G
I'm in. I can't be doin' with the wind-up merchants and flamers. Thankfully
you don't seem to get too much of that in here.

    Thanks again 317
