Have just changed stereos in '98 Omega from a CAR400 to a CDR500.
Display works fine on old one, but, apart from the safe/code entry
screen, nothing is displayed in the track/station section on the new
    one - anyone any ideas?

    Regards

is it the 8 or 10 digit display?
what happens after u put the code in?
might be a tech2 job to reprogram the display to recognise the 500

(alan will get this correct for u)

Ah! mine's an 8 digit - does that mean I've got problems? - never even
knew there was a 10 digit.

I got the following information from a previous thread, I can't remember who
posted it, but it helped me..

"If the display does not work after fitting a later stereo (ie CAR400 or
CDR500) it can easily be reprogrammed by a Vauxhall dealer. The cost can
vary but it is rarely more than £10 to £15. They can do it while you wait
but an appointment may be necessary.

Alternatively, the following normally works. It basically involves changing
the stereo setting so it outputs as an 8-digit display rather than a
    10-digit.

All the radios have hidden display menus.

On a CDR500 hold the 3 and 5 button in and switch on (with the ignition on)
the radio will display DISPLAY 8 or DISPLAY 10. Hold the buttons in until
the radio beeps and the display will change from 8 to 10 or vice versa.
Release the buttons and switch the radio off and then back on and the
    programme will have been changed.

    On a CAR400 the buttons are 4 and 5.

This may have changed on later stereos so experiment with other combinations
of buttons if it does not work!

In addition on all radios to switch off/on the ignition on/off logic do the
same as above with the 1 and 3 buttons"
