My son has given me a car

I want to sell this car

When i recieved the car i had to tax it as it ran out at end of Febuary

I have insured and taxed the car.

However, when i went to the post office, they insisted that i have to do the
change of ownership on the Log Book.

I did this and * they * kept the Log Book to send to DVLA.

I was told that it would be retuened to me in about six weeks

    SO
1 -------can i sell the car without a Log Book having been returned.

2 ------- Is there anything i can do to stop an extra owner being added to
    the log book
as i will not use the car as such just sell it on.

Yes - but buyer would be stupid.

I suspect not. Shame your son couldn't have taxed it.

But if you explain to any prospective purchaser (and given that you
presumably have the same surnames) you shouldn't find it loses any value
just cos of a bit of paper.

SG: They're quite correct. It's a legal requirement.
SG: Again they acted correctly, but you should still have a portion of
the V5 even though the post office sent the rest to DVLA. If it was an
old style V5 then you should have kept the V5/2 "New Keeper's
    Supplement" which is green. In the new style V5C it's Section 10;
    V5C/2, also green.
SG: I have recently purchased two cars (one privately and one from a
dealer) and got the new V5's back from DVLA within 3 weeks ... which
is considerably less than the 6 the PO quoted you. In fact the latest
one took just 10 days to arrive.
SG: Yes, but the purchaser may beed some convincing that you're
telling the truth. You will also have to write to DVLA and explain
that the vehicle has been sold.
SG: No. The V5 doesn't relate to ownership of the vehicle; just to who
    is the registered keeper.
