Without going into details, I have been a complete prat and lost all records
of the security code for my radio/cassette player. The people I bought the
vehicle from do not possess the details either!
What do I do, and how much will it cost?!

    Regards,
    Derek.

Go to your local Vauxhall main dealer. About £10.

last i head vauxhall were charging £20 for a radio code, they also wanted
the radio serial number and the log book to prove ownswership....
ironically when these digital display radios were introduced there were
thousands stolen from vehicles, and vauxhall were giving out codes for
    free.....
now nobody steals them anymore they charge for the codes........bit
    pointless if u ask me.

The price varies from dealer to dealer so anything between £10 and £20.

It is reasonable to ask for proof of identity. Would you want some toerag to
steal your stereo and get the code from a dealer?

We ask for the radio serial number for a good reason. We cans search by
reg/chassis number but this is no good if the stereo has been changed. It
takes seconds to pull out the unit and record the serial number and this
stops the risk of supplying the wrong code. We will do it without the serial
number but will not guarantee the code is good!

Finally, if you know the original supplying dealer (from the service book)
it is worth giving them a call.

i agree....but the point of my post was that now the security measures are
in place noone wants to steal factory radios.......sony kenwood pioneer etc
is a much better bet for a car thief and easier to sell on........plus a
majority of car radio's including vauxhall have seperate displays in the
dash meaning they are useless in another vehicle anyway.
asking for ID and proof of ownership is a good idea in theory, unfortunatly
the security measures are about 10 years too late.
