I've been having some sticking throttle problems with my 2000 1.8 zafira and
on advice dicided to clean out the throttle body. solved the problem, but I
noticed that I dont have a throttle cable. instead, it looks like some kind
of stepping motor on the side of the throttle. this got me thinking how easy
would it be to fit cruise control? I would need a new stalk with the buttons
on. with the throttle controlled electrically, and the speed sensed
electronically (must be, with an electronic speedo) what else would I need?
with no manual cable, there wouldnt be a need for a mechanism to pull an
extra cable like on some cruise cons I have seen. Is there some sort of
control box ? surely it cant be as simple as that? or am I barking up a very
    expensive tree?

any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated

    TIA

Sounds ambitious.... :-( Apart from everything else, I assume you'd need
a sensor switch on foot brake and clutch, to disengage cruise automatically.

Not heard of anyone doing it but can't see why you can't.
You would need a new indicator stalk with cruise, a clutch pedal switch if
it hasn't got one and a different brake light switch.
then it would have to go to a dealer to have the engine ecu programmed for
cruise. Might need the security code of the car but it is easy to change the
    programming.
As I said, I can't see any reason why it won't work.

both the main dealer and vauxhall CS told me i couldn't retro fit a cruise
control to my zafira 1.6 petrol
so i got the the very basic unit from the above (eagle economic)
problem is that the throttle pedal is very sensitive and when i engage the
cruise control the revs drop about 1000 rpm when i take my foot off the pedal
probably some play in the cabling or i need to lengthen the arm that attaches
    to the pedal
still working on it i'll let you know when (if ?) i get it sorted

since the throttle is "fly by wire" and the pedal is basically a radio volume
control, wouldn't it be nice to have a a knob on the dashboard as a "hand
throttle" to use whilst you wiggle the left foot about and "undead" your
    right leg ?

I have retro fitted cruise to a 2.0 Vectra and a few 2.5 V6 Vectras but
these all had cable throttles. Also fitted it to a 2.5 diesel Omega ( it was
an auto so just a case of fitting a cruise switch) - Vauxhall CS said it
wouldn't work but it all went on no problem.
Got me thinking this so I am going to do a bit of digging and see what I can
    find with fly-by-wire set ups.
