Replacement CD changer

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by David Aspinall, Jan 14, 2005.

  1. Hi all,

I have a 2000 Vectra GSi, with a four disc changer located in the glove box
    (as you probably know).

The CD changer is on its last legs, and after 171k miles (yes, that's not a
    typo), who can blame it?

Can anyone recommend a replacement CD changer that meets the following spec?

    1. Can play CDR / CD-RWs
    2. Still allow me to use the dashboard display for CDs etc
    3. Work with the Traffic Master
    4. Compatible with the Nokia Car kit, which, in the GSi, is fully integrated
(steering wheel paddles, stereo speakers, dashboard displays "message"
    during a call.
    5. Compatible with the head unit (standard Vauxhall unit) and steering wheel
    paddles.
    6. Can be mounted in the glove box, although I will also consider a boot
    mounted unit
    7. Can take at least 6 CDs.

Don't ask for much do I??

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Dave.

PS - Any one else got a Vectra V6 with as many miles on it is mine??

Would be interested to know what car kit is compatible though?

Goota a Nokia Bluetooth phone which am considering a carkit.

V6 GSi, yep i've got one but a lot of catching up to do. Only done 65k, was
looking at one last month to buy and it had 165k on it and still sounded
    lovely!!

  4. Yep, even at 171k, the engine is absolutely sound! It was my company car,
and I purchased it when the lease ran out, at 148k miles. Serviced every
10k, whenever it came back from the local Vauxhall dealer, the car / engine
was screwed, and had to go back for more work. Since the car became mine, I
take it to a local firm, who are a proper engineering firm (build engines
and cars etc, don't just change oil on Fiestas), and each time they service
it, it comes back like a new car!!

Cambelt was changed at 80k, 110k and 160k (for those who worry about this),
and the belt tensioner started to make a noise at 168k, but this was quickly
sorted before it caused any problems.

Which Nokia phone do you have? I've got a 6310i and the Nokia car kit works
    a treat!

    Regards,
    David.

  5. Vauxhall dealer you say? What, for a Vectra?

Thanks, but I was thinking more of a non-Vauxhall item...... maybe that was
    not obvious from my post.
