Hi been on with a fuel pump on a multipoint 16 astra (n reg 1994/5 )- the
pump appeared to be getting 12 v feed, but when the pumps *connected* the
voltage drops to 3 volts anyway I took the pump off surely it wasn't
working, but the new pump is still giving the same problem. So I need to
find the relay = bypass if possible......help

If memory serves me right it is in the drivers kick panel.
The wire in terminal 87 will be red/blue. Relay might be purple. Hope this
    helps.

Cheers mark - whilst I think on is there anyway of by-passing this relay
just to confirm that this is at fault.

Just send a 12v live feed down terminal 87. You will find one at the same
    relay plug.
Have you got any engine warning lights coming on?

oops sorry I'm not sure where terminal 87 just to clarify is it on the relay
panel (sorry if I sound thick but I'm just getting my head around this)

Yeah the engine warning lights on, but the owner dosen't know whether it was
    on before this particalar fault.

You will have 4 terminals on the relay - 30, 86, 85 and 87. They are usually
numbered on the relay itself. 87 is an output to the pump.It will be
    red/blue.

Just an up date Mark, I couldn't find a Relay with the figures you give here
(maybe it wasn't a genuine Vauxhall Relay) So what I did was ran a direct
feed to the fuel pump. The Pump ran like a good-un, the car 'fire up' for
short period then cut out. The woman whose car it is said this is the same
symptoms before the car wouldn't start at all. I don't have any diagnostic
equipment so I'm stumped. If you have any other ideas I'd gladly appreciate
    them.

When it was running was the engine management light flashing?

Just a thought, but if it will fire up for a short period then die, how
about a blocked fuel filter (or some other line blockage)?

Might be its just enough grunt in the pump to pressurise the fuel system,
car fires up, uses what pressure has been
built up then dies as the pump cannot replace the pressure loss.

Maybe a long shot, but its what springs to mind.

I thought the same Mike, but I took the pipe off going into the singlepoint
(carb looking thing) and then fed the pump 12v, there was plenty of petrol.
So I sort of eliminated fuel filter and blockage. Thanks for your input it
    is apprecaited.
