Re Astra electric surging.....

    Anyone tell me where I may purchase the parts for this alternator (online
    preferably) as I have an electrical engineer friend who is willing to
    replace the bits inside. His background is in communication electronics and
    doesnt come across any auto parts but knows all about them. Might as well
    give it a try as my local auto shop is quoting about £140 for a re-con unit.

    the diode and regulator 'packs' are best sourced from a scrapy yard.
    however you can replace them using std electronic rec diodes (+15A version)
    normally i find the leads of the diode 'star' just need resoldering, or just
    one diode has gone down.

    some packs you can crack open , others you cannot.
