Radio In Safe Mode...Advice needed please!!

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by someone famous, Apr 27, 2005.

  1. I bought a Vectra today that had been standing for six months.
The battery was completely flat but a quick jump start and it fired up.
The only thing was that the radio was in safe mode.

I was given the radio code by the previous owner but after one hour of
driving the radio never left safe mode.
I have the same problem with my wife's recently bought Vectra.
The previous owner removed the aftermarket Cd player and gave us the
original Vauxhall radio along with code.
I put the radio in and the radio was in safe mode.

I checked the handbook and it says there is a time delay everytime the wrong
    code is entered.
Yet I have been unable to enter any code in either radio as they continue to
    stay in safe mode.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice given.

Yet I have been unable to enter any code in either radio as they
Yes you are right DB, often you have to press the 'UM' button while
switching on then press preset 1 to step the 1st digit of the radio code
then repeat on the 2nd 3rd and 4th preset buttons in turn. Once the code is
accepted the radio should be back to normal except for the odd setting such
as the delay before switching off etc.

Correct in pronciple but isn't it the AS button? You also have to
remember to have the ignition on.

Yes Alan you are absolutely right. You have to have the ignition on, press
the AS control button, switch on the radio and keep the AS pressed until the
radio beeps and CODE appears in the display followed by 10 and spaces for
    the 4 digit code.
At the time I posted to the group the car was not to hand and I should have
said that I was referring to memory. I had recently had to get our radio
out of Safe Mode after removing the battery from the car but obviously got
some things wrong when I recalled the incident. Getting old is my excuse I
    am afraid :-(
