    Hi!

After disconnecting the battery in my Vectra 98, my radio (CDR 500) has got
in "safe" mode. I need to type a 4 digit code to open it again...
My problem is that this code was made by the last owner of my car, and I
haven't a clue what the correct numbers are.

Is it possible for an Opel dealer to help me.....any other solution??

    Thanx

I had this on a Ford and after taking the name - make and model of the radio
I telephoned Ford customer services who put me in touch with the people who
gave me the info to re-set the number with a new one.

Go on be a dare devil and make a phone call to Vauxhall\Opel. They might
    surprise you by being helpful.

The code wasn't made by the previous owner, it was set at the radio factory.
Any Opel dealer will be able to obtain this code for you for a small fee.

Sounds a bit obvious, but have you tried calling the previous owner? And
have you checked the documentation - including looking above the sun
    visor!?!

Yes, you should contact and Opel/Vauxhall dealer, they will probably send
No they won't. They will take the radio out of the car, look at the serial
number on the side + the car's VIN number and order the code for it. The
only reason they'd have to send it off is if it's not the original radio in
    the car.

Yes, you should contact and Opel/Vauxhall dealer, they will probably send
the radio away to be "fixed" and you will receive new documentation.

However is you have the cars user manual, you may find a small lable/sticker
somewhere inside. This may be your Code.

Is the car an Opel? If it is, you will have to contact a dealer from the
supplying country. If it is a Vauxhall it is easy.

Firstly, try the previous owner. If unsuccessful try the supplying dealer
(name on number plates or service book). If still unsuccessful you will need
to pay a dealer for a radio code search. This will cost around £15.

Bear in mind that the first two options will only work if the stereo hasn't
been changed. The dealer should pull the stereo to get the serial number so
this won't be a problem for a chargeable search.

Finally, if you have problems entering the code email me for instructions.

My local garage, in Leicester, has a contact who they regularly call
upon to re-program radios especially those which can be customer
programmed and who then forget the code. Costs around £20 - evidently
you just need the correct kit to do it.
