You may think this is a question I should be able to answer myself,
    but I can't, unfortunately.

I work for Merseyside Police and have exclusive use of an 'S' reg
marked Astra, it is in surprisingly good condition for a police car
and will help no end working in the area. The only problem is the
remote on the key does not work. I am guessing with the age of the
car, it has been swapped over in its life.

Is there a way of reprograming this with the car? Am I able to put it
in the ignition and have the remote control reprogrammed to the car?

I would appreaciate if the response would be to my email as I have
limitted access to this group on Google. The address is

Thanks for anyone who can help me on this.

If it's anything like the system on the Vectra, you 'program' it by
turning the ignition on and then one of the buttons on the fob. The
locks should go down, then back up.

Maybe police radio interference - not unknown especially with the new
    system.
Poor design of the key fob - using unprotected frequencies.
