Got a phone call from the missis saying she had to be towed home by the rac
today. Said the clutch had gone, wasnt driveable.
Well shit happens, but when I got home this evening I had a look and the
clutch slave cylinder has gone kaputt. Not too bad, except the damn thing is
INSIDE the bellhousing, which means the box has to come out to change it! I
have to wonder if the fuckwits who design these things have anything at all
between their ears apart from cowshit!

The fuckwits in question are presumably told to design for minimum
parts cost and first assembly time, so that's what they do. Long term
maintainability is not part of the design brief, it doesn't sell new
    cars after all.

Presumably then they arent in the market for repeat buisness then...

Well, most repeat business comes mainly from fleet customers and
individuals who swap cars every few years I would think, and they're
not going to be interested in long term maintainability IMHO. As a
bangernomics disciple I feel your pain, but I think this trend is
inevitable, and will only get worse :-((.

what engine is in your Zafira?
You can do 1.6 and 1.8 clutches without taking the box all the way out -
there is just enough room to slide it sideways into the subframe opening so
it gives you enough room to get into the bell housing - couple of hrs this
way as you don't need to drop all the rack/subframe down
