Hi folks. I'm new to the group, and would have been nice if I could have introduced myself with a better outlook on things. Unfortunately, I'm in need of some help. About 6 months ago I bought a 1992 Astra Merit 1.7 diesel, and at the time she ran fine. I then found out that the previous owner had, on deciding to sell the car, cranked up the fuel intake since it had apparently been sat there for about 2 years unused. I adjusted the bolt that sets where the accelerator rests against so that there was less fuel flowing in with no pressure applied and that seemed to solve the problem. Unfortunately, since then she's started to over rev if I'm driving for more than about 5 minutes. Its not really noticeable while driving, but if I hae to stop at lights or whatever, the engine really roars with the clutch depressed. The only way I've found which will stop this is to keep the clutch at biting point, which obviously isn't good for the clutch plates. I don't know what the RPM is for the engine, since the only indicators on the dash are speed, engine temp and fuel level. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? I'm hoping to fix this myself since all the other repairs/modifications I've made I've done myself, but I'm at my wit's end. The car came with a Haynes manual, but its for the petrol version and isn't much help with the engine. Any help or pointers would be more than welcome. Regards, Paz
