Omega Rear springs broke

Discussion in 'Omega' started by michael kinsella, Sep 27, 2004.

  1. When getting new rear tyres at Costco recently it was pointed out to me that
both rear coil springs were broken.
The car still drives as normal as the both broke at the bottom coil where
    the spring tapers in diamater.
How much should this job cost to do. Might have a go myself if I can borrow
some spring compressors. It looks a simple job but is it necessarl to undo
    the shock bottom bolt?
..Finally does anyone know the price of a pair of coil springs from Vauxhall
or any independent retailers. Dont want to spend a fortune as I am getting
rid of the car soon but not before the next mot.
    Thanks in advance,
    regards,
    Michael.

Mine were replaced for œ32.54 each + VAT last year. I don't know if
that included the labour since it was in for a service as well and
there is a separate labour charge for that. I had it done at a local
independent and they usually include labour with the price of the item
    on the invoice.

Thanks Rod. Thats reasonable . So I guess I`m looking at about £70 for the
job. Seems like rear coil springs are yet another weak point with Omegas,

    Michael.

    petrol now.

I'm sure you could get them cheaper than that. I doubt you need a
spring compressor - probably just undo the shocks, jack the car,
    remove & replace.
I've had broken springs on a 3 year old BMW so it's not just Vauxhall.
& it passed an MoT like it too.

Yes, the guy in the garage said if it was only in for an MOT it would
have passed since he wouldn't have seen the broken springs if he hadn't
taken the wheel off, the brake fluid was replaced, and they could have
been broken for the previous MOT.

  7. Well I rang my local main dealer Pentagon Vauxhall and they Quoted me £270
for 2 rear coil springs!!!!. They must be joking.
Having declined their offer I rang around a few motor factors and the
cheapest I found was £70 for the pair . I dont know what the quality is like
but I may take a chance on them.. If anyone knows of anywhere better please
    l;et me know,
    regards,
    Michael.
