I've been told by my local VX dealer that the probable cause of intermittent
non-starting (engine turns over, but does not fire) is down to a faulty
    crankshaft sensor.

Its a 2000 facelift Omega 2.5 litre petrol with a X25XE (with cat) engine.

Can anybody enlighten me as to where this sensor is located, and how
    difficult it is to change?

My local dealer is quoting between £220 and £260 dependent upon which type
    of sensor is fitted!!

    TIA

  2. there are two types of sensor fitted to 2.5 omega, sensor is situated on left
hand side of engine next to oil filter wire runs along metal coolant pipes
upwards and connector ends up at top of engine right at the back under all
those vacuum pipes you can see, this is not a diy job.

    Hi

    Thanks for that,

Wasn't looking to do it myself - but I do have a local garage that does jobs
properly (unlike the Vx dealer who can't be trusted - they did the cambelt
change and then forgot to re-connect vacuum pipes, the pipe to the exhaust
emission valve and ignored most of the retaining clips.!!)

Can I assume that it won't be too major a job for my local garage to do with
the next full service (booked for next week) given that they will be
stripping most of the top pipework to get at the spark plugs ??
