Hi, I have a Corsa 3door 1.2i SXi and the cambelt has gone at 11,000
    miles!!!!!!

The car was BRAND NEW and the Vauxhall dealer is saying the engine is
not covered under warranty as they have plugged in the computer to the
car and they accuse me of over-revving the engine and therefore its out
    of warranty.

Can there computer tell them this? Or are they just using this as an
    excuse?

I have never over-revved the car and the reason I bought it brand new
with the warranty was to give me trouble free motoring. Now they are
telling me a new engine is £3500 and its not covered under warranty.

Any ideas? Ay help? Anyone else been fobbed off the same way?

The X12XE engine uses a chain, not a belt. It should be good for 100000
miles - nevermind 11000! Have you been driving it on the redline? How
    old is the car?

All cars less than about 10 years old are fairly idiot proof, they have rev
limiters, for example, to prevent over revving.
Sounds to me like they're try to fob you off!

  5. True, I haven't tried it with my Astra Sri auto but all four of my
previous Chrysler Neon autos had this, it kicked in at 6500 revs and was
like hitting a wall, the car just stopped, never mind fobbing you off,
    they're taking the piss.

I've asked on a Vauxhall Forum I read, so if the OP could wait a day or
two I may have some advice from the experts.

Rev limiters won't stop the engine over-revving if you drop it into 2nd
at 100mph.... ..on a manual gearbox of course.

The dealer is fobbing you off and trying to sell you a new engine.
There is a Vauxhall recall going on at the moment for faulty timing
    chains for 1.0 / 1.2 litre Corsas built between 2003 and I think 2005.
Go to another VX dealer who is actually interested in helping you under
the warranty or complain to Vauxhall Customer Care. All the dealers
know about the recall & most are automatically changing the chain at
    service time.

  8. I assumed the manual would be the same as an auto, impossible to over
    rev.

  10. I would have though a timing chain going tits up in the outside lane of
a motorway might just raise a few safety concerns :)

Not really. just sudden loss of power. Like when a cambelt snaps (I speak
from experience). Bent valves, dented (maybe holed) piston crowns. Probably
    damaged
head. Its not like its going to suddenly lock the engine. just cause a lot
    of expensive damage.

I had a customer arguing the same thing saying the cambelt was at
fault. What he didn't know was he was overtaking me when it went! He
shot past me and dropped it down too many gears. There was a bang and
lots of smoke from the exhaust. The next time I saw him he was arguing
with a Service Receptionist saying he was just driving gently around
    town!
