    Hi all.
I need to locate the diagnostic socket on the wifes 2000 zafira 1.8 ecotec.

Engine light has come on, but otherwise car (appears) to run fine, but I'd
still like to pull the code(s) and find out whats up.
Looked in fusebox, but not there. on old vectra, was under handbrake, but
cant seem to pry anything up in that department.
could it be in engine bay? or anywhere else?

    Thanks in advance

under the little bit of trim in front of the handbrake lever where your hand
goes when you let the lever off - it is tight but just pulls up.

Cheers Mark. Now all I have to do is wait for her to bring it back :)

Yep, found it, but I'm trying to dig out what needs shorting where to get
    the code(s).
old vectra, you just grounded pin 6 then turned on ignition, but now theres
no pin 5. Instead of a trapezoid shape like the vectra, it looks like this:

    http://www.topbuzz1.carenthusiasts.co.uk/info/fault_codes/pic007.htm

but instead I only have pins 3,4,5,7 in the first row, and pins 12 & 16 in
the second. I'm still digging for a diagram, but am open to usefull
    suggestions.

  5. Try the following link
    http://www.autoscan.co.uk/product_Detail.asp?PRODUCT=51&DEPARTMENT=34

I had a problem with the engine management light coming on my 1999 Opel
Zafira 1.8 I contacted the above company to find out if the scanner would
    work.

They thought it would and agreed to send me, on the basis that if it worked
I would pay for it, if it didn't work I could send it back.

The scanner arrived next day, I plugged it into the diagnostic socket and
hey presto I could read the codes.

I think the standard for this type of fault code reader to work was not
compulsory until 2002, but some cars manufactured before this date did
comply to the new standard hope this helps
