I have had nothing will trouble with this in the last three months that i
have had it, and now the conrod has snapped and done untold damage to the
engine, which is now scrap, and it going to cost around £800 to supply nad
fit a second hand one, as i paid £1,600 , its not worth the effort. I think
the guy who sold me this saw me coming. So basically this post is to have a
moan and get ot off my chest, and i will never buy a vectra again.

You say you will never buy a Vectra again, but is it all Vectras that are at
    fault or just yours?

How has it been treated in the past? Has it ever been serviced? Has it run
out of oil at some stage?

Blimey! I thought the days of snapped rods was gone ! What with proper
    servicing and fancy new oils.
The previous owner must has thrashed it mercylessly and done a lot more
    miles than the clock says.

Check it's been clocked? Well it *might* not have been - they are
*supposed* to be very hard to clock, but the right laptop. lead and
program is all that's required (allegedly !) or the easy way is to
disconnect the speedo drive pick up on the gearbox an then thrash it
    around as a Taxi.
The other (less likly) possibility that the good engine that was in your
motor has been swapped for a duff one??
Very high milage cars usually have interiors in very poor condition
especially the drivers side with a worn steering wheel, pedal rubbers
and mats. Lack of service history, missing MOT's are all clues.

Some VX cars can be very hard-wearing - my last one with 125k on the clock
(Cavalier) had original pedal rubbers hardly worn, plenty of grip in the
steering wheel, and just a couple of small paint chips.

Upholstery almost perfect, no signs of collapse or wear in the seats (even
the drivers seat, and I weigh more than 50 kg but less than 100!)

The gear lever gaiter used to come adrift - but this happened almost from
    new anyway!

Clocking check - might try the DVLA if the previous owner notified them of
the mileage when re-taxing the car (seems unlikley in this case)

Did you have the old MOT's?

Was it a dealer (even an undereground one) that you can complain to trading
standards about? - might not get you anywhere, but a pain in the a**e for
    him/her
