I have recently changed my old Cavalier hatchback for a 2.2 Vectra Estate
with which I am well pleased. Apart from there being more of it to clean it
seems to get dirty faster. One short trip and the rear end is covered in
dirt. The cavalier had mudflaps but this new estate car does not. As far
as I can remember all my past cars have had mudflaps so do mudflaps help to
keep the back of the car clean ?

  2. Don't know about the mud flaps but my Astra 5 is the same, I guess it's
the way cars are designed to be slippy these days.

    Yup, always use 'em

But the earodynamics can cause muck to be "sucked" onto the rear of th car -
a low pressure area is created or sime such.

Mudflaps I think might reduce this, but more important;y reduce the muck
thrown directly off the wheels onto the nderside of the car/rear of back
bumper (rears) and of course up the sills and doors where it can cause dirty
    clothes (fronts).

"Muck" at this time of year of course also means the grit-blasting you get
when the roads are gritted - along with the nice salty stuff of course!

I have a two-fold approach to this problem.

    1- I bought a black car. (really!)

2- I wash it every 5 years without fail, whether it needs it or not.

If the above is too much trouble, then never buy a car bigger than your
partner can wash on their own.

Thank you one and all for your advice. I shall make arrangements to have a
    set fitted ASAP.
