Mk4 Astra Windscreen replacement in Plymouth

Hi all,

Oh yes, I am an idiot !
I have just managed to crack my windscreen whilst making a hamfisted attempt
to change my front wipers by letting one slip out of my hand with nothing on
the arm thus springing back like a hammer.

I have never been in this situation before, does anybody know if there are
any good places in Plymouth and roughly how much this bl**dy fool is likely
to pay to be laughed at ?

My Insurance is F/C btw.

Your ins. policy probably recommends / demands you use a named windscreen
firm (eg Autoglass). So do check that first. You should end up paying £50
(or possibly £60 these days) for the screen, rest paid by ins. coy, and no
loss of no claim. No special reason to explain how the breakage occurred,
IMHO, and if you can produce your ins. cert to repairer, you may not need to
contact insurer at all..!!

If no firm named, then pick a national from your yellow pages. They should
come to you in a few hours... or even quicker for total breakage rather than
repair.

As for being stupid - far from it. I'm amazed the spring on an arm could
break a screen - generally can't even keep the rubber on the screen in a
slight wind...!

I had a look at the AutoGlass site and they say to just show them the
certificate and pay the "Excess" straight to them so thats probably what
i'll do (just following your advice).
