    Hi all,

I have a 97 Astra CDX 1.6 16v - and was wondering if anyone could shed any
light on either of the following?

    1. First - I have found that the windows can be set to one-touch close and
then the key can be removed from ignition and the windows continue to close
(most of the time). However - after removing the ignition key sometimes
either window will stop closing and re-open completely? any ideas?

    2. Second (this one baffled the "expert" at my Vauxhall dealers) The owner's
manual mentions that the MK3 Astra should have a form of 'total closure'
where if the electric windows are open when locking the car - they can be
closed by holding the key in the lock position and they will close of thier
own accord. Mine however (a CDX) doesnt seem to do this? Was this only
fitted to the GSi or Sport? or has something gone wrong/need resetting/etc?
I have seen this work on an older (92) Cavalier so I know I havent dreamt
    this feature! :)
    - The Vauxhall dealer started by saying that mark 3 Astra's didnt have this
feature (until seeing the manual) and then proceeded to try to force my
driver's locking barrel to break by pushing the key past the deadlock
position and then saying that I could do with a new barrel as mine 'was on
    its way out' charming.

    Thanks.
    Dan.

I have exactly the same problem with my '96 Astra CDX.
In fact after many hours of fiddling with the key I gave up and sent
mine in whilst it was still under the Vauxhall Network Q warranty to
get it looked at and the garage must have misunderstood my problem as
they just changed the drivers door window electric motor .. which
worked perfectly fine in the first place !!! In the end I have just
left it - even though the manual says it is there it does not appear
to be a feature that is fitted - unless somebody knows of a way to
    wire it up?
My dads Cavalier had the closure feature and it is very handy to have
    !

AH total closure on a mk3 i didnt have this on my mk3 (no eleccie
windows) but i do on my mk4 a colleuge showed it to me and i have now
mastered the art, you need to use the key NOT the fob move the lock
to the locked position then let it rest at 12 o clock then turn to
deadlock hold it there for a few seconds (about 3) and the windows
will start to close hold in this position till fully closed.

The fob does it as well as following the above for the key on my Omega.
First press locks, second press deadlocks, third press and hold and
after about 3 seconds the windows and sunroof will start to close. It
took me a while to realise that I had to release and press again after
deadlocking and you have to do it within a few seconds of deadlocking.
Will this work on your mk4?

You say you did with the remote what you normally do with the key. Did
you release the button on the remote after deadlocking it and then
press it again to shut the window?

I've just been out to check and the key works exactly as you say. I
also tried the remote in the same way I tried the key, one press to
lock, second to deadlock and I held the button and the window shut. It
didn't do that when I got it, I had to release the button after the
second press, then press and hold a third time for them to shut.

This is the first time I've tried this method for years. I did have a
software upgrade about 4 years ago on the check system to solve a
problem with the oil level detection being too sensitive so maybe this
    was changed by the update.

I assume if it doesn't work you haven't got the facility, hopefully
someone with the same car can comment.
