I have been looking up recalls on the wifes zafira and have found the
    following:

"Zafiras VIN range WOLOTGF7522199742 to WOLTGF7522229096 recalled because
batch of brake calliper pistons may release hydrogen gas into brake fluid.
Where found to be from faulty batch are to be replaced. "

Can anyone shed any light as to how this can happen?

Nope - but I'd be interested in the source of recall information ...

    go to

    http://htdig.honestjohn.co.uk/home/index.htm

follow the car by car breakdown link in the panel on the left of the page,
then select make then model from pull down menus.

I am not aware of this but I am not a technician. A Vauxhall dealer can
check for outstanding recalls and goodwill reworks (these are subject
to age/mileage/history) and this is the best thing to do.

We check every car that comes in but a lot of dealers don't bother.

If you email me the chassis direct (not through newsgroup) on
I can check this for you,
