Helicoil on Brake caliper

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Howard Funnell, Apr 18, 2010.

  1. I have been replacing front discs on a Vauxhall Zafira when I undid the
calliper fixing bolt the bottom one was very very tight, when I refitted it
and tightened it to 70lbs/per-foot the thread stripped. the calliper has the
clearance hole in it and the hub carrier is threaded

The bolt looks M12 but seems to have a different pitch. would it be
acceptable to fit a Helicoil thread repair in this application? Given its
importance Or would it be better to drill out to the next size and re-tap?

    Thanks

This is Front Brakes! the only safe fix is replacement parts. Breakers
parts would be acceptable, but make sure the fit is good.
Think of the down-side if the calliper came loose
