Had a windscreen replacement recently - since then the interior mirror,
which used to be quite stiff when you tried to adjust it, is suddenly very
loose, to the extent that if you try to use the dipping switch on it the
whole mirror moves out of alignment!

Is there something I can adjust to stiffen it up a bit?

I had the same problem when I had a new windscreen in my Rover years ago. I
made a little washer type thing out of a sheet of thin rubber. Pulled it
down behind the stem and it stoped the thing rocking side to side, sounds
like it was not as bad as yours though.

Thankyou all for your replies - now found the cause of the problem.

There isn't any adjusting screw - the ball of the ball-and-socket joint is
fixed to the bit of plastic thats attached to window. The socket bit is part
of the rear half of the mirror casing - and the socket is split!

I guess the windscreen people wrenched it somehow when replacing the window,
and pulled it apart awkwardly causing it to split - so now it no longer
    grips the ball tightly!

Hopefully my local VX dealer can supply just the back half of the mirror
casing without me having to buy a complete assembly ....
