Fitting CD Player into N Reg Corsa

Discussion in 'Corsa' started by sarah.hartwell, Feb 20, 2006.

  1. I am just about to get an N Reg Corsa, but the stereo is a basic
radio/cassette which, I am told is, moulded into the fascia. I don't
know what the wiring situation is like, but I'm told "it's wired into
the dashboard lights" (current owner couldn't be more specific).
Cassette radio is no good for my needs so I want to transfer my 6 month
old Goodmans CD/MP3/Radio from my suddenly deceased car into the Corsa.

Can this be done? If so, is it a home job or a take car+stereo to
specialist job? If a home job, would I need any adaptors (electrical
or fascia). The ability to fit my CD/MP3 player into a new car is
actually a make-or-break decision on the Corsa.

Sorry I can't be more specific, but I haven't yet acquired the car and
probably won't if the CD player is an impossibility.

I fitted an Alpine stereo system into my son's 1.2 Corsa B (doubled the cars
value) and apart from running an extra +ve fused lead from the battery for
the power amp everything else was just swap the plugs. What happened was
when you turned on the stereo, the Corsa radio display stopped working but
every thing else was OK. Then when the stereo was turned off, the display in
the corsa showed the clock again. It wasn't perfect but he was happy.

What model Corsa is it Merit/Envoy/ LS / GLS etc ...

The merits didn't have the clock or temp gauge in the dash so the radio
should fit no worries, however if the car does have the Temp gage & clock in
the middle of the dash it is just a case of cutting one of a cables which
fools the display into thinking the radio is turned off (the cable could be
white with a red stripe - NO GUARANTIES THROUGH).

Your best bet is to get a set of auto leads from halfords about £9.99 that
way you do not have to chop and of the cars original cables.
