    See Bottom

Mass Air Flow Sensor from main dealer (Maynes Garage RedRuth) was £264+vat
However i took the part into Mill Auto Spares and showed them the Bosch Part
    No
One phonecall later by them to their Bosch Supplier.
Mass Air Flow Sensor From Mill Auto = £165.00+Vat
This is a saving of roughly £115.00 once vat is added to both prices
I then tried this at a local AutoSpark Place
Cornish Electro Diesel ( CED )
they were £160+VAT another £5.00 + vat Saving

But the best was that after some ringing round
I found a second hand spare.
    from a breaker
    for the Princely Sum Of
£10.00 + VAT ( I dont yet if it works will let all know Tommorow)
If It Does You Should be able to see my grin in the Outer Hebrides.
Thanks to all for their Advice So Far.

Well done on finding the s/hand unit. I hope it works. I hadn't realised the
pricing anomaly with the Bosch part. I will take this up with vauxhall.

    Excuse my Ignorance Alan

When you say you will ' take this up with Vauxhall '
As you are obviously a parts dealer ( a most helpful one at that ).

Could you tell me in your experience if you think that Vauxhall will try to
    plug this price gap

For Example Try to stop Bosch selling this part to anyone but Vaxhall
    Dealers.
or will this be a good thing and lead to Vauxhall Main Dealer lowering price
    at his end.
    Just curios Alan.

My curiosity stems from the fact that as the price of these car parts reach
such astronomical proportions it is going to be in the users intrest to get
the RS Components Catalog out and make their own parts Etc Etc.

Mass Air Flow Sensor from main dealer (Maynes Garage Redruth) was £264+vat
This is common across the motor industry. Car manufacturers don't make
components, they rely on outside suppliers. There is often a massive
mark-up just for the sake of putting the part in a Vauxhall (or Ford, or
Volvo, or BMW...) branded box than a Bosch one. It's not right but it's not
    illegal.

I'm confident that Alan will be asking Vauxhall to bring their price down
(bear in mind, he's being ripped off by Vauxhall just like you) but I doubt
he'll be successful. However, there's no way that Vauxhall will be able to
stop Bosch selling them to anyone else - this won't be a part made
especially for Vauxhall, this will be part of an existing Bosch system that
Vauxhall have chosen to fit to their cars.

There used to be a section in Car Mechanics magazine (possibly there still
is) called Motormatch - listing generic parts for many cars, much cheaper
than buying them from a dealer. There are thousands of examples, especially
on things like electrical components, turbos etc.

One example I remember was that the mirrors on the Aston Martin Vantage came
from a Citroen XM - rather cheaper buying them from a Citroen dealer than an
Aston Martin dealer. Nowadays, many Aston parts come from the Ford/Volvo
    parts bin.

I have just started to investigate the pricing anomaly and cannot remember
what car it was for or who posted this! The post has now disappeared on my
    server.

    Does anyone remember any details?

Thanks but this does not say what car it is.

I have found quite a few from Vauxhall at £160 but none for £264 yet!

Presumably it is a funny we don't sell very often.

It will take some time. Firstly the price will need to be reviewed and
secondly they normally only change prices twice a year.
