Corsa Pinking Problem Solved

Discussion in 'Corsa' started by Terry Bartlam, Sep 23, 2003.

  1. Hi Re my posting on the 4/09 with my 3 year old corsa pinking,at last
the vauxhall dealer has resolved the problem

It was the Air Mass meter, it seems that the meter was reporting the air
temp as being 10 plus deg hotter than it was, this piece of plastic with
a couple of sensors cost around 250 pounds plus fitting, but at least the
    pinking has disappeared.

Is it just me, or does anyone else out there think that the makers need to
be taken to task - somehow - on these costs?

We have a new generation of cars now that are mechanically reliable, but
which have plastic and electronic components that

    a) Fail

    b) Fail in a way which makes the car unusable

    c) Cost far too much when they do

    d) Mean that older cars can rapidly change from good-cheap-runabout into
fit-for-scrap(or beyond econoical repair) in no time

I have a vision of scrapyards full of perfectly good cars, all of which have
the same bit of failed plastic, all BER, and you can't get the parts from a
scrappie beacuse - they only get scrapped when the particular bit fails, if
    you see what I mean!

    So

The used value of your car vanishes
The scrap value of the car is zero
and, ultimatley, it means that cars become disposable - not very
    environmentally friendly!

Very much agree with you - but IMHO it's just this scenario which enables
them to charge so much for the spares - just squeezing above the BER level.

IIRC the original mini, the old Rover 2000 (and doubtless others) were all
sold at a loss - with the deliberate intention of making money on the
spares. Does this practice continue today?
