Corsa Clutch

As I continue my quest to replace each component in my car - one by
one - due to some scorchingly bad luck, the latest thing is going to
be the clutch. I understand I'm looking at hundreds of pounds here,
but what bothers me most is the difference it will make. Today, during
a service, the clutch pedal was adjusted so it's sitting pretty
high up now. Given that the foot room in a Corsa 1998 is sparse, this
is a pain in the butt-tocks. A new clutch will allow me to freely
lower the pedal again, correct? Any other bad news a new clutch will
bring, noise, different feel altogether, etc, etc..?

Oh, and will the gearbox need removing in this year's car (1998)?
Apparently, some older models don't require so much work to replace
    plates.

I cant just place my hands on it now, but a few weeks ago in reply to one of
my posts Mr Cheerful posted a nifty way of getting the clutch out of these
    cars.

IIRC the parts bill for mine came in at well under £100 incl release bearing
and both halves of the clutch, labour as ever will be the killer. :)
