    Yes me!
I stopped at a Give Way line 'cos there was a car coming - bloke behind
    didn't.
Cue an insurance claim for a new hatch (estate), new bumper, hatch slam
panel, offside wing and lamp cluster. Oh and paint of course.
    Bu**er, Bu**er, Bu**er. Spose thats my no-claims gone now.

Ermm ... you are going to be claiming off his insurance then aren't you?
Or at least using someone like Helphire to help you claim off him? If
someone else is to blame (and you have his details), shouldn't really
    affect you at all!

Yep ! The insurance payout is in effect a loan (at high interest rate)
that you pay back in increased premiums over the next 5 or 6 years.
The repair estimate is in the region of £1500 parts + £1000 labour (5
days in the bodyshop and a session with the body jig because the boot
area is twisted to the offside).
AND they can't fit it in for 3 weeks!

Hi Dave - apologies in advance if you know all this, but...

....if this really is a "no fault" accident (can't be much else unless you
were reversing flat out), you should be OK. Had a similar thing a while
back, the loss recovery people (free service, via broker) recovered
everything - including relief car delivered to door, sundry phone, taxi,
post costs etc, plus some modest compensation for slight but temporary
whiplash pain). Being able to write "ALL costs recovered from 3rd party" on
subsequent insurance forms proved invaluable, and meant premiums did not
    rise.

Suggest you talk to your broker NOW about the future position - and if
there's any hint of higher premiums, get it quantified and add it to the
claim. If you don't use a broker, suggest you start talking to one NOW,
anyway. IME, trying to deal with Ins. companies direct can be less than
    fruitful.

    Good luck

Rear-ended by a minicab as I was turning left into a car park. Driver
admitted liability straight away, said "Sorry, mate, me foot slipped off
    the brake".

Took 2 weeks to fix, twisted boot area. All costs paid for by his
insurance, except the higher fuel costs of running the loaner 318SE
instead of my Cav 2.0. There were no Vectras available, so I got the BMW
instead. Very nice to drive, but very cramped if you've got long legs.

    Thanks for the pointers guys.
The ins co. have put me in touch with a solicitors.
I may very well have to get a hire car becasue it looks like I'll get
water in the boot of the Vectra next time it rains.
The interior is a light fawn colour, a bu**er to clean, so it might be
better to get a hire car for 2 weeks or so rather than ruin what I'm
told is an interior that's hard to get.
They are due to phone me shortly, I'll have a word.
The incident WAS one of those rare occurances were the other party was
100% to blame - wether he accepts it or not!

That's really good. You should find you have to do nothing. Solicitor will
add his bill to your total claim. If there's anything in your total claim
which is "negotiable", don't take first offer. (Solicitor should guide you
    if you're holding out unreasonably).

Would be interested to hear when it's all wrapped up. In about 6 months, I
    guess :-(

    I was hoping for more like 3 weeks . . . . . . . . . . but reality has
kicked in. Well in fact it kicked in about 2 nanosconds after the other
    bloke "introduced" himself.
That was at the point when I switched off the engine and reached for the
disposable camera as I got out of the car.

Can't claim that as an original idea, but it got a mate out of serious
    insurance poo some years ago.
