I have a CDR 2005 CD player in my Omega estate. The unit obviously has a
default volume setting which I don't seem to be able to alter. Basically
every time I turn the ignition on I have to manually, either via the unit
itself or the steering wheel controls, increase the volume.

Does anyone know how to alter the basic volume setting?

According to the manual, this is a factory setting which is not able to be
    changed.

I seem to recall finding something about this on my TIS cd -you have
to put the unit into a special mode. I'm sure a dealer could do it,
but I'll see if I can find the bulletin. Watch this space.....

    Yep. Indeed. True.
But the TIS CD is the one used by dealers, so has the dealer technical
tips. Trust me, it CAN be changed, you just need the instructions.

    Phillips??)
    will telll u how.
i have had cause to use them B4 & they were good.

    Hi, Guys,
Phil here, posting from home via Google. If anyone's interested, I've
found the fix for low volume. This ONLY works for the Phillips unit,
and I take NO responsibility for any damage that you might do in
implementing it. This is from TIS field remeby 1332:
    Radio CAR2004, CCR2006 und CCR2006 BOSE (PHILIPS/VDO)
    1. Turn on ignition.
    2. Turn off radio.
    3. Push and hold RDS-button and turn on radio until confirmation
    signal sounds.
A succession of signs appears in the display showing
receiving field intensity of the radio station and frequency.
    4. Push RDS button as often as necessary until P37 is shown in
    the display.
    5. Change value to 13 using the station buttons 1 and 2. Station
button 1 changes the first digit, the station button 2 changes
    the second digit.
16 different signs can be chosen anytime.
    (0123456789 ABCDEF)
Push station button 1 one time and station button 2 thirteen
times, to adjust to a value of 13.
    6. Push RDS button until confirmation signal sounds one time, the
    new value is then saved.
Radio Parametervalue Actual value New value
    CAR2004 P 37 06 13
    CCR2006 P 37 06 13
    CCR2006 BOSE P 37 06 13
    Attention:
Push RDS-button within 3 seconds after changing the value, and hold
    until
confirmation signal sounds one time, otherwise the value is not saved.
False entries in the parameter adjustment can cause function errors
