    Hi
Anyone help,...... am trying to service my Cavalier 1.8 I M Reg (1994)!
Changed the plugs today, pretty straight forward, tomorrow attempting
to replace oil and filter, any tips on how to access the old filter, is
it easier to remove the wheel? to access the filter?

    Any tips would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Hi
I ran one (2.0CDi) for several years until recently - gave it to my son in
law at 191K and it's still running strong.
I found it easy to just turn the steering and there is plenty of access
    without removing the wheel.
Use a strap or chain wrench to loosen the old filter and it's easy!
Remember to clean the housing carefully and don't leave any lint of other
debris in there. Finally clean the rim of the housing where the filter
seats and apply a small film of grease to the rubber seal on the filter and
a little clean oil to the thread.
Hand tighten and don't over tighten.
    Job done!
Fill it up, run it up and check for leaks.
    Good luck
    Rob.

yes you dont need to remove the wheel, but you should put some kind of tray
under the filter to prevent the oil from running down the wishbone and
dripping onto the wheel as it will every time.

No - there's plenty of room under these cars unless you've lowered the
    suspension.

Filter is easy to get at - it's on the R-H side, just put the steerinf on
full right lock and you should have plenty of room to manouvre. You can
easily get at the mounting to clean it as well, but make sure you get all
traces of grit etc. from the mating faces.

I assume you have a strap or chain wrench to get it moving.

I used to put newspaper over the antirollbar and the chassis mountings to
guide the oil that leaks out when you undo the filter, into a bowl otherwise
it gets all over the place.

Ol draining is OK as well - can get at from under the front bumper as long
    as the
drainbowl or whatever you are using will slide underneath, there is no need
for ramps or any other aids at all. Always have a copper washer available -
they are only a few pence from your local motor factor (well, from mine
    anyway!)

Fuel filter is a swine though - it's b*****y dark and cold under the back
    end!

Thanks for all advice, yes I have a chain wrench, but never managed to the
    thing
mounted correctly, always (on previous cars) knocked a screwdriver through
the filter, bit messy but did the trick!!!
