Cavalier CLutch..how far to pull the shaft?

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Long tall ugly, Jun 11, 2006.

  1. Hello All,
    Cavalier 2Ltr SRI 8V 1991
    Need to change the clutch,,,,
Take off end cap, c clip and screw..apply tool.
pull off plate from bell housing,
    FIGHT clips onto plate.
Back to end cap to pull shaft..it moves about an inch and stops
    (sounds solid),
How much further shoud it come because it hasn't cleared the driven
    plate.
The fly wheel looks like it is slightly ressesd, though everything I
have read says it should be flat.....

    Questions:-
1 Is there any easy way to get the cover plate clips on(used pedal,
still not enough, forced clips on had the efect of spreading them so
fingers of plate were still 'up' )?
2 how far does the shaft come out and how much force to use?
3 The 'letter' box plate is about the size of a letterbox and not much
bigger than the clutch pressure plate..is this OK for the 'quick '
    type change.
4 If I have to do a box off.. can I pull the shaft and just undo the
bell housing to get more room or do I have to do a full removal ?

Sorry to be so long winded

    Regrds

Can someone tell me why morons like this take on jobs that they are not
    capable of doing.
The shaft has to come out more than one inch you retard.
I personally use a slide hammer to pull it out then the clutch will drop out
    underneath.
Don't forget to put the clips on the clutch first.

One thing I never did was take advice from kerbside mechanics like the
    retards here.
The fact they know very little about cars does not stop them offering
    advice.
After all your the Aussie retard that can not fix his own car yet offers
    advice to others.

Ha-ha am I suppose to be upset that you or any of the morons here have
    killfiled me?
Don't waste your time with dramatic effect by telling me your going to
    killfile me just do it.
I must admit I find it pathetic that people killfile others it reminds me of
    a child sticking his fingers
in his ears so they can't hear other people.

So run along Aussie retard you won't be missed.
Oh I forgot you've stuck your fingers in your ears you can't hear me, LOL.

Aussie, just check the message-headers - Dogger looks remarkably like
that other twit, Straight Talker, who you love so much. He used to post
from a proper usenet account before someone reported him for abuse.
Think I'll follow suit with the killfile, though, until he reinvents
    himself again

  9. Hello All,

As I have been labeled a retard, does that exclude me from getting
    some help now?

    hi john.
take no notice of dogger, he had the name stratetalker last week, he insults
everyone at some point or another.
just add him to your killfile.

i dont know anything about the clutch release on that car,
but keep trying as someone out there will help you.

even if some people think your a retard.

Again thanks for your friendly comments

Hi , You will have to give it a good yank to get it to move right back....It
wont come right out so don't be shy with it.

Before I had the tool for the job I removed a bolt from the selector housing
and placed a large washer onto the bolt....then get two pry bars or similar
    and pry it back evenly.

  14. Thanks for the reply chaps,

The web site has been booked marked and I now have confidence to be
more DEFINITE on the pull on the shaft.
Must admit I tried a bit of leverage with 2 long handles but when I
felt it stop just befor it imerged from the shaft it slides in I was
not shaw how hard to pull.I will invest in one of thoes nice short
slide hammers.(I can always use it to keep the grand children quiet)

    Thanks for the replies
    They are MUCH apreciated
    Regards
    John
