Recently i had to call out the RAC because the steering lock jammed on
my cavalier 1.7TD (m reg).Because the steering wheel woulden't move
the engineer could not remove the steering wheel so after
disconnecting the airbag he proceeded to chisel off the lock.
Having had another lock and ignition fitted i find the airbag light
stays on.The haynes manual mentions nothing about this but they do say
to disconnect the battery before disconnecting the airbag.I now face a
bill for £35 from vauxhall just to reset the light. I am wondering
weather the manual is wrong or weather the RAC man disconnected the
airbag incorrectly. Can anyone Shed some more light on the problem.

You do need to disconnect the battery, and then leave the air bag for I
think 2 minutes before disconnecting it from the car to allow the capacitors
to discharge, otherwise the airbag warning light will illuminate. It
illuminated on my Vectra after I reconnected the battery but forgot to
reconnect the airbag connection. I paid £15 to have the system reset by a
local independent Vauxhall specialist in York, so it may be worth ringing
around your local garages it's literally a two minute job and there should
be no need to book the car in.

    Hope this Helps

  3. Alternativly take the offending bub out of the dash,A fairly simple
operation,Start by taking of the steering case 3x screws then lift off
bottom plastic unscrew top piece on either side 1 or 2 other screws and out
pops your speedo rev counter and all.

I don't know if this post is serious but I would not even consider removing
    the bulb.

When the bulb is illuminated the airbag/pretensioner system is disabled as
it thinks something is wrong. The bulb is there for your protection.

You should be able to clear the bulb yourself as previously posted.
