Car Judder at 40

    40 mph, not age.

I recently had two new tyres put on the front, second time I've done
this in about a year - first time around was fine. Since the new
tyres, I've noticed some quite uncomfortable vibration and judder when
reaching exactly 40mph. I took it back to the shop - a very nice guy
that checked the new tyres and balance and readded some weights, but
    still there was no change.

Just passing it by the group, for ideas, since my mechanic is on
holiday at the moment and it might be a week before I see him.

On a side note, had first accident Friday - car rear-ended me and put
a whacking great dent in the two parts of the bumper (thin black part
now has stress marks, a crack, needs replacing - the red bumper part
underneath popped back into shape with only a 5cm diameter mark, nice
design, Vauxhall) I was exiting a junction when the man behind me
thought I was moving off and slammed in - the first thing he did was
get out of the car, apologise and reach out to shake my hand, which I
accepted. Was all very gracious and he offered that we either go
through the insurance or let him deal with it - he works with motors -
so we'll be doing that over the weekend.

There's a huge dent inside, where the car-boot-lock bolts onto (bottom
of boot when door is opened, but nothing that can't be hammered back
into shape. Boot opens now more easily, so I might leave it hehe).

Was Friday the 13th, but quite lucky. No-one hurt and I couldn't have
been hit by a nicer person.

    first test always
    swap fronts to rears
see if it still does it

    that will narrow it down
if it goes away swap one side back only
if it still gone, you now know which tyre it is
    to test
swap the others side back aswell, problem should return.

    try it

Gah, such a simple test - good idea and completed - the problem was on
the front driver's side wheel. I've replaced it with a brand new wheel
and everything's fine again, cheers. I don't see an issue with the old
wheel itself, I'll get a new tyre on it in the week and try it out
    again.
