    96 Tigra 1.6 Ecotec.

Pulled the codes for my non-starting Tigra and it came up with 0200 and
    0340.

0340 is the camshaft sensor but 0200 is not available. (0201 - 0206 is
injector fault so I'm assuming 0200 is a general injection fault0.

Where is the camshaft sensor on this engine so I can check the connections
    and the wiring?

Right. The camshaft sensor *looks* okay, the wiring isn't frayed and the
    connections are tight.

The problem is that the car won't start. There is no spark at the plugs,
(which is why I was expecting a crank angle sensor code), the cams are
turning and the engine *feels* like it's trying to start.

I've heard conflicting stories that the cam sensor will stop the engine from
firing and that it won't stop it. Anyone know which is correct?

    Any ideas?

Don't know about Tigra, buy my '96 Veccy 1.8 suffered the same prob
recently - it still started and ran, though - but in "safe" mode, so 4,500
max rpm. Repaired in 2 stages - first, cleaning up / renewing connections
(reported here as known prob) but to no effect; hence then had sensor
    changed. No prob since.

BTW, fault was intermittent - and I only ever got one code (cam sensor).

yes they do go. clean the sensor connections, check for fraying along the
length of wire any where near the engine
if still no go change it.

If the timing belt is very slack it can also give a cam sensor fault code.
If you haven't had it changed every 40k you would do well to get it done.

Removed cam sensor, gave it a good clean, refitted - no change. So I bit the
bullet and called my local Vx dealer for a price on the part.

"Yes sir, camshaft sensor for that model will be £85.50"

    "How much? £85.50, Jesus wept"

"...erm, plus VAT sir. That'll be £100.46"

For a fancy piece of plastic and a wire????

I don't need my City & Guilds in being a tight git to work out that that's
    daylight robbery.

When mine was done (see earlier post in this thread) my local village garage
charged £36.50 + VAT. That was about half the Vaux dealer's price for the
bit. So worth asking around, I should think.

Not sure if you can say the cam sensors OK by looking at it.

I think the big dealers call this payback, though I don't agree with their
prices - they do have to spent money up front to research and built these
devices (this is their excuse not mine) - companies who built similar
devices have had the donkey work done for them.
