    Dear Group

My astra diesel 1.7TDS 1997 (Isuzu engine) has done 167,000 miles and
requires a cambelt replacement as per servicing specification at each 80.000
    miles.

I do not know much about the cambelt but have been advised by the garage to
also have the cambelt rollers replaced, but its up to me.

What would others who know more about this type car/engine advise

    Thank you in advance.

If I were you I would do them if you are keeping the car. they are easy
enough to do while the belt is off
(impossible with it on!) and they came with the kit I got when I did mine in
our '96 veccy with the same engine.
unless a garage is doing it for you and are going to sting you lots more for
the 'extra' work (about 5 mins).

My garage will charge £110 for the cambelt and £190 for the cambelt plus
    rollers.

Get a quote from a different garage...

IIRC the kit from autovaux.co.uk is a bit more expensive than the belt on
its own, but as for the work, they basically come off in your hand.

If the rollers break up (and they do) it won't matter you've had the
belt replaced. Should come as a full kit i.e belt & rollers.
