Boiling point

I notice in my Haynes manual for my 94 Astra 1.4 petrol 5 door hatch that
the thermostat starts opening at 92 degrees Cel. and is fully open at 107
    degrees.
The cooling fan comes on at 100 degrees Cel.
As I understand that the boiling point of water is 100 degrees Cel. under
normal conditions, can anyone tell me what is the boiling point when the
water is under pressure in the system.
    Thank you, Wilson.

the boiling point of water will progressively decrease the higher the
    atmospheric pressure.

there is a calculation, but safe to say, about 92 cel. in a car is about
    correct.

Thanks Mike but I thought that water under pressure had a higher boiling
point than the normal 100 cel.

    Correct.

A cup of tea boiled at the top of Everest is only luke warm!

I am not sure of the boiling temperature under pressure but it is around 105
    degrees

Who, in their right mind, would want to climb Everest for a cuppa? <g>
Later systems can reach upto 120c before boiling, although I wouldn't
recommend anyone rushes out to try it.
Many rovers'cooling fans are controlled by the ECU and activate at precisely
104c, cutting off at 97c.. Although this is a Vauxhall group, there tends to
be a generic design as to the max temperature.

I notice in my Haynes manual for my 94 Astra 1.4 petrol 5 door hatch that
Anything up to an extra 25 deg C.

Bear in mind that correctly mixed anti-freeze will also raise your
boiling point by up to 10 deg, so the final boiling point could be as
high as 135 deg depending on implementation.

Vectra V6 owners will probably know a little about hot running
    systems... :)

Thanks to all who replied. I feel happier now. I was getting a bit worried
when the guage was getting up to nearly 100 in stationary traffic.
First time I've had a Vauxhall.
    Regards. Wilson.
