Hi there folks I have an Astra Mk.3 convertible with all-round electric windows - as of this morning the cluster of four controls on the drivers door no longer operates the two rear windows. Which is odd, as each of the controls on the rear windows themselves do indeed send the windows up and down -- but not two comprising the block of four on the drivers door. Any ideas as to what could be wrong would be greatly appreciated! Regards Mark B ;-)
i would guess the common feed between the two middle switch contacts or the wiring thru the door strut is chaffing. pop out the two relevant switches & check for volts feed. the operate the switch and see if the other contact of each switch comes alive. if it does , then it's wiring fault. if no volts on normally open contact then trace it back thru the door strut grommet. mike
Thanks for the rapid response Mike -- sounds like a visit to an auto-electrician is the order of the day!! Cheers ;-)
well to be honest i'd gain access to be able to 'look' at the switch where the wires go on. it could simply be a case of a spad connector dropped off or become poor. i do not know of a fuse that would 'just' disable the drivers consul switches alone. but i am not familuar withthis vehicles setup. just the thoughts of how i would tackle it & poss causes. it is not rocket science, a meter and two leads will be able to trace it. the motor needs 12v to make it fly, so it must be losing it somewhere around that area. mike
Nice one Mike, had a quick look at the underside of the switch unit and all looked fine and dandy. Collared the boss to whack a meter-thingy across it and it appears the ground was duff on both rear window switches together with the "child switch" -- he's done a quick job of spurring off an additional ground from the front switches and all is cock-on!! Thanks once again for your help, it has been very much appreciated. Regard, Mark ;-)
