I am attempting to fit an electric PAS pump from a 2001 plate Astra G
to my rally car. The pump is fitted to the car and plumbed up but I
have a wiring issue. There are 5 wires to the pump - heavy red
(presumably live), heavy brown (presumably earth) and 3 light wires,
black, brown/white and blue/white. I have tried every combination of
connecting the three remaining wires to live/earth and nothing makes
    the pump spin. Help!

As you guessed -Red = Live ( 80 amp maxi fuse ) and Brown = earth
Black is ignition live with a 10 amp ordinary fuse
Brown/white is the wire for the tech 2 diagnostic socket
Blue/white goes to the ecu - not sure what signal this is going to be but I
will see if I can find out.

Do a search around the rally forums, someone does a loom and resistor
conversion so that you can vary the power assistance.
